Review: Shock Treatment (LINK)

As sacriligious as some people think this might be, I have never seen this movie before. I am currently watching it for the first time. Some people have never heard of it- I honestly hadn't until I picked up Rocky Horror Picture Show up- I'm young enough to still be putting together a DVD collection, and this was on the list.
This has been described as a sequel to Rocky Horror in some places, it was written by Richard O'Brien.
It does feature Janet & Brad Majors- I just checked IMDB so guessing the marriage went though in spite of the events that took place in Rocky. If, you know, you follow canon.
Er, anyway, there's quite a bit of callbacks. O'Brien, obviously, Patricia Quinn, Charles Gray, 'Little' Nell Campbell. Janet and Brad are played by Jessica Harper and Cliff De Young, respectively.
I'll be honest, when you make a sequel with different people playing two main leads, it's hard to get used to. And I just don't like the actor that they picked for Brad. He's a completely different character, really, and I think that's part of the problem that I'm personally having. And Jessica Harper- her voice is in an entirely different range. If Susan Sarandon was a Soprano (and I won't swear on it) Jessica is an alto- a low alto. Like, sometimes when she starts singing I can't tell if it's her or a guy.
Oh, just noticed that Barry Humphries plays Bert Schnick. Barry Humphries is better known as Dame Edna- just for your information.
But this is obviously a movie about how fame changes you, and it does seem to predict the reality series phenomenon properly. Also known as the Omarosa syndrome. It also covers the 'a pill for everything'.
Also, keep an eye out for the beginning of the worst of 80's fashion including THE makeup. You'll know it when you see it. Hats that have to be horribly impractical to store- I only have one closet where I have that much space on a shelf.
This is something that, if you're a Rocky fan, you should watch. I can't guarantee you'll like it, but it's worth watching if you haven't. I like it, but don't watch it thinking that it's Rocky, it's not. The music hsa the same feel, but it's a different movie completely.
As a side note, if you like the Rocky Horror soundtrack and punk rock, you might check out The Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show. I think it's neat (their logo is kinda nifty too).
